About R-LEAD Program

R-LEAD was established in 2011 by the University Housing Student Leadership and Engagement Committee. The goal of the program is to introduce first year residential students with a desire to develop their leadership skills to the numerous involvement opportunities provided by Student Life - Office of Residence Life. During this early engagement program, we target the personal growth and development of each participant through dialogue and structured activities.

Successful applicants will possess a diverse collection of interests and skills including, but not limited to, demonstrated leadership experiences, a genuine interest in community development, a passion for personal growth, and a high level of enthusiasm for leadership. If you are looking to begin your career as a Buckeye with a leadership experience that will allow you to lead where you live then R-LEAD is the right program for you!

If you're looking to also participate in the Ohio State Welcome Leader (OWL) program (click here for website), you'll need to separately apply to that program here:

Dates of Program

R-LEAD Virtual Program:

Sunday, August 1st – Friday, August 6th

Legacy Group connection events:

Monday, August 30th - Friday, September 3rd

2021 R-LEAD program sessions will be held virtually at the beginning of August and focus on leadership as well as emphasize about how students will lead their legacy at Ohio State. Each participant will be assigned to a legacy group, or small group of their peers, which is led by two peer mentors who are returning OSU students. These peer mentors help build community among participants and help answer questions that their mentees have about college life at OSU. There will be both synchronous* and asynchrous** aspects of the R-LEAD program between 8/1 - 8/6. The legacy group connection event(s) format will depend on programming guidelines set for Autumn 2021. This may include a couple of synchronous* events that week for participants to attend.

*Synchronous = happens at the same time. (Examples: Live zoom meeting, live legacy group meeting)

**Asynchronous = doesn't happen at the same time. (Examples: recorded presentations to watch, worksheet materials given to participants to complete)

Applicants must be incoming first-year students.
