About Us

RHAC is the governing organization for all residence halls at The Ohio State University. We oversee OSU's 21 residence halls and complexes, working with hall councils and University Housing and Dining Services to create the premiere residence hall experience for our students.

In addition, RHAC represents OSU's residence halls on the regional and national levels as a member of the Central Atlantic Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (CAACURH) and the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH). RHAC is a partner organization of the National Residence Halls Honorary (NRHH), an organization representing the top 1% of residence hall students.

RHAC serves as the voice of residence hall students and is the governing organization for all campus residence hall councils. Each residence hall elects an Executive Board which sends a member to represent the opinions of their students within the RHAC Senate. Students work within the Senate by joining committees, creating programs, approving funding, and voicing their opinions and concerns for the betterment of the student residential experience.

Our Vision

The vision of the Residence Halls Advisory Council is to create the premier residence hall experience and environment for all undergraduate students at The Ohio State University. We hope to accomplish this through initiatives that support and build upon our five core pillars.

Our Mission

The mission of the Residence Halls Advisory Council is to serve The Ohio State University undergraduate residence hall student population. This goal will be achieved through:

  1. Advocating the interest of all undergraduate residence hall governments and associations equally.
  2. Creating and supporting campus-wide residence hall activities that are supported by one of the five RHAC pillars:
    • Creating and Developing Community
    • Student Advocacy
    • Student Development and Wellness
    • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
    • Recognition and Leadership
  3. Encouraging student involvement in improving undergraduate residence hall facilities and programs.
  4. Facilitating communication between student leaders, University Housing and Physical Facilities and Development through the review of policies, procedures, and practices as requested by staff or residence hall students. In addition, the Residence Halls Advisory Council will provide liaisons to the administrative areas of University Housing and other campus organizations.
  5. Serving as the coordinating body for undergraduate residence halls governments and student associations, thereby encouraging communication among the membership.
  6. Representing undergraduate residence hall students on University-wide committees and student groups.
  7. Serving as an advocacy body as well as an information and funding partner to other residence hall student organizations.

Our Services

From student organizations to paraprofessionals such as housing, dining, sustainability, and security, RHAC is the liaison between on-campus students and the University. Student development and wellness, diversity, and recognition play a key role in our outreach efforts.

Advocacy is one of RHAC's 5 pillars and we address issues and take action to represent all students on campus. Our advocacy committee develops a shared understanding of social justice and strives to engage with the diverse student population.

RHAC is always open to collaborating with a variety of student organizations by providing volunteers, planning, marketing, and funding. All collaborations should be centered around one of RHAC's pillars to support the on-campus population.

RHAC hosts on and off-campus events to create and develop the community. All events are free and open to collaboration. RHAC encourages students to get involved and participate in events such as axe throwing and dive-in movies.

Grants and Scholarships

RHAC grants are funding that can contribute to programs, hall improvement, or other residence hall initiatives that will better our community and enhance the student experience at Ohio State. Scholarships are awarded to students who have made great contributions to the residence hall community.

National Conferences

RHAC is a member of the largest student-run organization in the world, the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH) who hosts conferences to build leadership, professional development, and innovative ways to create a better campus.

Leadership Positions

RHAC is a great fit for ambitious students that value advocacy of all the on-campus residents, marketing, small and large scale programming, and building a strong community across campus. RHAC meets every Tuesday at 7 PM where students get to know each other and the University's resources. Additionally, our committees are open to all students and offer a behind-the-scene experience in RHAC's programming, finance, advocacy initiatives, and national outreach.

Build Relationships

Students and faculty have the opportunity to develop communication skills and get to know people who have the same passion for creating a better community through discussions, programming, and development.
