The Multicultural Histories and Legacies of Spain Study Abroad Experience

The Multicultural Histories and Legacies of Spain program (March 7-16, 2025) allows student participants to understand social change and how (and when) to implement it to create more just, inclusive, and equitable communities at home and abroad.

The two-part experience features an eight-day, hands-on, global learning experience in Madrid and Barcelona, Spain.

As part of the MUNDO ES HESA 3573 course, participants will examine the concept of social change in domestic and global contexts.  Class participants utilize digital media, lectures, and interactive experiences at home and abroad facilitated by the course instructors/resident directors and local and international community members, civic leaders, and scholars to examine social change theory.

The Multicultural Histories and Legacies global travel opportunity will occur during spring break 2025 as part of the semester-long course at the Ohio State University-Columbus campus. While abroad, the group will explore the ideas, concepts, and theories examined in a semester-long course at The Ohio State University Columbus campus.

Locations

The program will be housed in Madrid and Barcelona while abroad,  with day trips to Toledo and Montserrat, Spain. While overseas, the group will analyze how powerful societal influences such as religion, government, and societal structures shape the lived experiences of diverse communities in the past and present. As two thriving European governmental, commercial, and global centers, Madrid and Barcelona are ideal destinations for unforgettable out-of-classroom global learning opportunities.
