MUNDO at The Ohio State University is committed to facilitating conversations and promoting actions that result in community-based service, experiential learning, and social change-based leadership.
These goals will be achieved by providing nontraditional discovery opportunities that incorporate diversity, inclusion, and social change in ways that enable active MUNDO participants to:
Develop responsible citizenship skills through ongoing engagements with community-based service and a deeper understanding of global perspectives and inclusion
Reflect on connections between classroom experiences experiential learning opportunities
Understand key components of both personal and community wellness through social change-focused leadership
Diversity- Individual differences (e.g. personality, prior knowledge, and life experiences) and group/social differences (e.g. race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexual orientation, country of origin, and ability as well as cultural, political, religious, or other affiliations) (Taken from the Association of American Colleges & Universities Inclusive Excellence Model).
Inclusion-- The active, intentional, and ongoing engagement with diversity- in the curriculum, in the co-curriculum, and in communities (intellectual, social, cultural, geographical) with which individuals might connect-in ways that increase awareness, content knowledge, cognitive sophistication, and empathic understanding of the complex ways individuals interact within systems and institutions (Taken from the Association of American Colleges & Universities Inclusive Excellence Model).
Nontraditional Discovery Opportunities (NDOs)- Unique, experiential learning opportunities designed to support the intended educational and developmental outcomes of the MUNDO.
Social Change-- A leadership process designed to create a more equitable world through a consciousness of self, congruence, commitment, collaboration, common purpose, controversy with civility, citizenship, and change (Based on the Social Change model by Dr. Susan Komives).
